Intern: Graphic Design (Fall 2017)
The Lair is Good Monster’s internship program that takes students out of the classroom and puts them into a real life marketing agency setting. In this program you will work on a real brand to get real results such as website traffic, content reach and revenue.
What are we looking for?
Good Monster is looking for individuals who are friendly, hungry to learn, and excited to work with a team to produce creative marketing campaigns that get attention and drive results.
We are specifically looking for a Graphic Design Intern to work with our Summer 2016 team of “Intern Monsters” to create funny, witty content to engage Good Monster’s audiences across social and digital media.
Does this describe you?
You eager to use your graphic design skills in a real-world environment. You are hungry to learn what it takes to design a piece of content that engages thousands of people to like, share and comment. You take pride in creating the perfect design environment of proper spacing, perfect font selection and attention-grabbing layouts. You are an artistic “natural” and have been doodling, sketching, building and creating since you were two feet tall.
What is this internship like?
“Hey! I’m Gena Buza. I was the Photography and Graphic Design Intern for Jaxon Jovie. While I was there, I was in charge of designing most of the creative content for the Instagram like Instagram Stories, Quote Cards and editing photos. While there I also did a few odds and ends things like website mockups, t-shirt designs and icon designs to go onto vlogs and youtube videos. Because of this, I highly recommend that you know how to use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Every now and then I also occasionally assisted in taking photos during some of the photoshoots.”
What did you expect coming into the program?
“Coming into this internship I was expecting to be mostly doing photography, and because of that I think I was expecting to have a lot of free time. I was pleasantly surprised that I was wrong about both of those things. I actually did little photography and mostly design work. I also was not expecting to be in charge of my ‘department’ as much as I was. Each of the four interns were literally in charge of their departments and had control over what was done and sent out.”
What’s the coolest part about the internship?
“I think the coolest part about this Internship was how much we were entrusted to do to keep Jaxon Jovie running smoothly and successfully. I also think that how well the other Interns and myself worked together was a huge part of how successful we were.”
What was the most important thing you learned during the internship?
“How a legitimate company ran behind the scenes. It was incredibly in-depth and hands on and I feel confident going out into the world and starting my own company.”
What type of interns are perfect for this program?
Hard workers who are dedicated to growing a company. You have to love what you do and be willing to work with others.
What is one suggestion you would give to the intern filling your position?
“If you are a creative, you have to be willing to take opinions and direction from others. Everything you create has to follow the brand so not everything you create will be used.”
